Co-Founder and CEO, Maria Health
Born and raised in Oakland, USA, Vincent Lau is the co-founder and chief executive officer of tech startup Maria Health, an online insurance aggregator which aims to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for SEA emerging markets, starting with the Philippines.
Prior to setting Maria Health, Mr Lau had vast experience from consulting for Fortune 500 companies Accenture and Cisco, to product management roles in VC backed Silicon Valley startups. The most recent startup was funded by Jim Clark (founder of Netscape). Mr Lau is also currently advising Kalibrr.
After a decade in Silicon Valley, he decided to follow the footsteps of his Filipino friends and fellow University of California-Berkeley alumni Paul Rivera, who left Silicon Valley to set up a technology recruitment company, Kalibrr in the Philippines.
Inspired to address real-world issues and to create lasting social impact, Mr Lau saw an opportunity in the health insurance industry of the Philippines, after seeing that only 5% of the 100 million-strong population had access to health coverage.
Mr Lau credits his success to the creativity, hard work and grit he developed learning from the experiences of his Chinese-immigrant parents. He strongly believes in empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs by tapping the creative and talented minds of the Filipino youth he proudly works with.
